These are the events that are revolving around with the Black Mage hundreds of years ago in MapleStory; please note that I do my best to keep them as accurate as I can so if there are any errors please let me know. ^_^ I have not included many details about Luminous quite yet since there really isn’t a storyline quite yet that has been translated and it is based on from the video here.
Black Mage’s Birth
- Born in Edelstein
- “Few remembered the preternaturally bright child who would grow into a brilliant young man, eager to delve into the secrets of magic. Some saw the arrogant temperament, impatience, and a ready anger that he unleashed with little provocation, but the black hole at the center of his soul that might have foreshadowed what he would become was hidden from their sight.“ – The Prophecy of the Black Mage
- Black Mage’s reason to rule:
“The Black Mage saw the chaos in Maple World and believed that the people could not be trusted to make their own decisions. He felt that they needed a benevolent king to control every aspect of their lives and he rose to power using noble ideals such as peace and freedom. The people believed his words and embraced his voice. Soon, they found the only peace offered by the Black Mage was the peace of the grave and the only freedom was freedom from responsibility that marks a slave. The reign of the Black Mage was unprecedented in its cruelty, all done in the name of the greater good.” – The Prophecy of the Black Mage
Events prior to fighting the Black Mage 100+ years ago
Von Leon joining the Black Mage
- The Red Lion King, Von Leon and his wife Queen Ifnia ruled the El Nath kingdom; which used to be a beautiful place with peace and laughter
- Cygnus Knights was suspicious of Black Wings activity in El Nath
- Cygnus Knights marched towards El Nath
- Queen Ifnia is murdered; a Cygnus Knight crest was found on top of her body
- Von Leon swears vengeance against the Cygnus Knights and is led into believing they murdered his wife
- In reality though, it was really the Black Wings who have murdered the queen. A harbinger of the Black Mage placed a piece of cloth (presumably from Cygnus Knight armor) onto the body of Queen Ifnia.The man in the black robe was in front of her, crouching over the body of a young woman. He was placing a scrap of fabric on her chest.“The murder of Queen Ifnia,” he said. “Tonight El Nath will be invaded by a contingent of ‘heroes’ drunk on their own dreams of glory. They will look into the abyss and when the abyss looks back they will shrink away and hide from their own failures. Indeed, they will hide it so well that most of those who fight under their banner shall not even know that this shame exists.” – The Fall of Cygnus
- The Black Mage offers power and an alliance with Von Leon in exchange for his soul, which he hesitates but accepts his offer
- Von Leon is now one of the generals working for the Black Mage
Odd note: Cygnus was not born at this time (Aria was still alive or dead at the time Von Leon became a general) even though she has formed the “Cygnus Knights.”
The Heroes
- Freud is a great magician that wanted humans and dragons to live in peace together thus forming a Spirit Pact (formed from pure friendship) with the King of the Onyx Dragons, Afrien
- The Black Mage is fond of Afrien’s powers and asks the king to join him while betraying Freud but refuses
- The Black Mage is determined to break the Spirit Pact between the two friends by encasing Freud into ice and having Afrien join him
- Aran, Freud and Afrien, Mercedes, and Luminous sometime formed themselves as heroes to fight the Black Mage before the joining of Phantom
- Phantom falls in love with Empress Aria while trying to steal the treasure of Ereve (Skaia)
- Empress Aria is murdered by the army of General Orca from the conference for peace
- Phantom confronts with Freud and joins the five heroes
- Mercedes gives the treasure of Elluel to Athena Pierce (need reference to the name of the treasure)
- Aran stays behind to fight the Black Mage and sends off Athena Pierce and a variety of citizens fled to Ellin Forest (which is now Ellinia)
The Betrayal of Demon Slayer
- The Black Mage orders the army to burn down the southern forest of Leafre, where Demon Slayer’s family lives
- Meeting with the Black Wings generals; Von Leon, Orchid, Arkarium, Demon Slayer (Lotus is absent)
- Arkarium reveals the news to Demon Slayer
- Demon Slayer returns to the outcome of his home and finds a locket of his mother and brother (Damien)
- Mother and brother of Demon Slayer is pronounced dead from the fire
- Demon Slayer swears revenge against the Black Mage
- Mastema is sent off by Demon Slayer with a letter of his to bring forth the five heroes
- Arkarium mocks the Demon Slayer and tries to stop him from entering but is easily overpowered
- Demon Slayer enters the Black Mage’s room and fights, only to be defeated by him and is KO’d.
Fighting and Sealing the Black Mage 100+ years ago
- Freud and Mercedes pursued into the room of the Black Mage after battling many monsters on the way with Aran and Phantom (whom both stayed behind due to their injuries?)
- The Demon Slayer is found KO’d in front of the Black Mage
- Freud and Mercedes fights the Black Mage but only to be worn out from battling
- Luminous pursues onto the path to the Black Mage’s room, met by Phantom explaining some stuff to him (will get back to this later)
- Luminous meets up with Magnus and Guwaru, two more commanders of the Black Mage
- Guwaru is striked down by Magnus, Luminous tries to attack Magnus but damage was to no avail (will get back to this later)
- Magnus leaves, Luminous enters the room of the Black Mage to see the KO’d Mercedes, Freud, and Demon Slayer
- Luminous starts setting up the seal of the Black Mage (?) (will get back to this later)
The Aftermath of the Fight 100+ years ago
- Black Mage places the heroes into a curse of being encased in ice and is successfully sealed by the heroes
- Aran, Mercedes, Freud and Afrien are out on the fields of a burning and a snowfall of Leafre
- Mercedes goes up to check up on Freud and Afrien, she is sent to the town of Elluel
- Mercedes finds out the Black Mage also cursed the elves into ice; the three elders were slowly encased into ice
- Mercedes seals off Elluel from the outside world to prevent the curse from spreading
- The queen of the elves is eventually encased into ice in her throne room
- Aran sends off the heroes to cover Freud’s escape
- Freud escapes with Afrien’s egg (Mir) for the Spirit Pact for a future hero (whom is now known as the boy Evan)
- Afrien takes on the curse instead of Freud, also encased in ice
- Aran is encased by ice in the snow of Rien
- Luminous and Phantom are encased by ice somewhere…
- Victoria Island was formed from the Ellin Forest camp by Athena Pierce
- Dances with Balrog was born
Odd note: Freud is known to be dead before he even escapes with Afrien’s egg in the Mercedes storyline.
